Eats, Beats Take to the Streets This Weekend in Vancouver, B.C.

by | Feb 22, 2013

There’s an innate draw to Granville Island. A bustling, picturesque plot of land, originally the name of the city of Vancouver itself, Granville pulls in tourists and locals alike. Some come for food — you can find the freshest fish and produce in the city at the Granville Public Market. Others are after art — music and theater performances are frequent, in established venues or from buskers on the street. And on this Friday and Saturday, locals and visitors will be descending on the island in droves for a first-of-its-kind Vancouver festival that combines both — Street Eats and Beats, hosted by Edible Canada.

It’s a celebration of Canadian culture, and let’s be real — there’s a lot to celebrate. The party kicks off tonight at 6:00 pm under iconic Granville Bridge, where some of the city’s most popular food trucks (Le Tigre, Fresh Local Wild, Re-Up BBQ and many others) will anchor the “eats” side of things. Beats-wise, get set to hear some local up-and-comers open for headliner DJ FreeLance. And it wouldn’t be a party without the long-lauded Granville Island Brewing and local winery Sumac Ridge providing drinks to warm you up as nighttime sets in. Bookended by Vancouver’s eighth annual Winterruption festival (Feb. 22-24), also on Granville, Eats and Beats adds an extra punch of energy to an established festival weekend.

So don’t fight the pull of the island — hop a boat or tram to Granville and join in the revelry.

Friday and Saturday, February 22—23 || 6:00 pm—12:00 am || Granville Island, Vancouver, B.C. || Tickets: $30/night (includes two drink and six food tickets, additional tickets available for purchase)
