A season of thanks and reflection

by | Dec 14, 2011

So here we are, tis the season! The holidays are upon us and that means parties, family get-togethers and events galore. The Winter edition of Sip Northwest focuses on helping you spice up your holidays. One great place to start is with the signature cocktails created by our resident bar chef Kathy Casey, such as the Holiday Spiked Iced Tea Punch and the Toasted Thyme Last Word Cocktail. Looking for the perfect pairing? We headed to the renowned Book Bindery restaurant and with the help of Chef Shaun McCrain and our writers Chris Nishiwaki and Erin Thomas, we paired five courses with some of our region’s finest beverages. Although it may be hard to replicate the rich dishes created by Chef Shaun, I think you’ll find this feature to be a nice guideline to your own pairing options.

Want to leave the cooking up to the pros this season? Visit Ron Zimmerman and wife Carrie Van Dyck of the Herbfarm in Woodinville, Wash., for a truly remarkable farm-to-table, nine-course meal complete with five beverage pairings. The hustle and bustle of the season will surely dissipate as you enter the doors of this charming establishment.

To start off the new year in style, how about a girl’s wine-cation getaway to Cave B Inn complete with spa treatments, private wine-blending sessions and outdoor yoga classes? And while your significant other gets a little R&R, the gentlemen can opt for a guy’s brew-cation on the Victoria Ale Trail, indulging in fine craft brews and poutine!

During this season of reflection, I’d like to thank all of our readers and friends in the beverage industry for the amazing support we’ve received since the launch of Sip Northwest. The feedback over the last few months has been very positive, and it’ll be our pleasure to continue to cover the best in liquid culture that the Pacific Northwest has to offer in the coming months and years…even though we will have to personally taste all of these fabulous concoctions!

From all of us here at Sip Northwest, we wish you a very happy, healthy and peaceful holiday season and a prosperous New Year!

And most importantly, please drink responsibly!

Cheers!
