Of course, as this is the beer issue, I wanted to feature a couple beer cocktails. The first tasty looking libation is the brainchild of the trio behind Portland’s Brewing Up Cocktails blog, Jacob Grier, Ezra Johnson-Greenough and Yetta Vorobik. Like its creators, the Cascadian CaipBEERinha has a ton of local cred—it features NW label Ninkasi Brewing Company’s Total Domination IPA and Novo Fogo Silver Cachaça from Dragos Axinte, a champion of sustainable spirits and local brew.
When he’s not blogging with the folks above, Jacob Grier is the lead bartender at Portland’s Metrovino, where he regularly shows love for beer cocktails. In his Harvey Weissbanger, Jacob replaces vodka with wheat beer (he likes Portland local Widmer Hefeweizen) to compliment the Galliano’s vanilla notes and the tangy OJ.

Ninkasi’s Total Domination IPA or other Northwest IPA
In a cocktail shaker, press the citrus wedges and mint leaves with a muddler to release the flavors. Measure in the Novo Fogo Silver Cachaça and agave nectar. Fill with ice, cap, and shake. Pour into a large tall glass and top with beer.
