Found 25 miles west of Portland is Forest Grove, Ore., home to Bull Run Cider and its orchards, with its more than 3,000 trees planted with 50 different French and American apple and pear varietals. Sustainable “to the core,” Bull Run’s estate is also loaded with berries so the inspiration to do a berry-infused cider was loud and clear. Using some locally grown marion, black and boysenberries, the Bramble Berry cider has the base of ripe apples and is blended with the brambly fruit to produce a rich and dense cider, both aromatically and on the palate. Dry and carbonated, the sparkling cider is juicy and tart with apple, berries and lip-smacking acidity.
