Kulshan Brewing Company Midnight KDA

by | Jun 27, 2013

Who needs to bottle when you can plug your beer into adorable, mini 32 ounce growlers for double the suds? Kulshan Brewing Company kicked open their doors in April of 2012, filling those growelettes and pints for the beer thirsty masses of Bellingham, Wash.—to be exact, 642 pints, 106 pitchers, 24 schooners, 41 sampler trays and 77 growlers, according to our beer guru Kendall Jones’ recap of the opening last year year. Hailing from Olympia, Wash.’s Fish Brewing, Kulshan owner and brewmaster Dave Vitt brews a wide variety of beers to last through the year, including a handful of seasonals and the obligatory hop-head ales. Since you can’t have a summer ale every time you pop a top for the next two months, Kulshan brews their Midnight KDA. The Cascadian Dark Ale (K is for Kulshan) is brewed with Midnight wheat malt and aggressive hops, creating a beer that is big and assertive but generous, rich and soothing. Roasty with coffee beans, rich caramel, molasses and root beer tones, the hops are very much alive in the nose with citrus and on the palate with a swift kick.
