The Daily Sip: Pyrenees Vineyard 2011 Pinot Gris

by | May 15, 2013

Rogue and Umpqua Valleys are quickly garnering a reputation for excellence in Alsatian varietals. Pyrenees Vineyard & Cellars, with its 30-acre estate riverside vineyard and Umpqua Valley bred winemaker, produces a handful of southern Oregon regulars like Syrah and Pinot Noir but most notably puts out a Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris to do Alsace proud. The 2011 Umpqua Valley Pinot Gris is fragrant with honeyed Bosc pear, tangy green apple and savory citrus tones. The palate starts out light with citrus and honey but finishes with a fuller stonefruit emphasis.
