The Daily Sip: Payette Brewing Mutton Buster Brown Ale

by | Apr 4, 2013

BEER THURSDAY: Payette Brewing Mutton Buster Brown Ale

One of the three breweries in Boise, Idaho proper, Payette Brewing put its star on the map in 2010 with the same three beers they produce year-round today. One of those brews is the Mutton Buster Brown Ale, the first beer to be canned in modern Idaho brewing and a tribute to the kid-friendly rodeo race of sheep riding. The activity should not be taken lightly and neither should the beer it is named after — the chocolate and brown malts used stuff the beer full with sympathetic flavors of roasty tones like warm cashew nuts, cocoa powder and caramel. Dark with girth, the brown is still undeniably sessionable with 5.5% ABV and a sheepish 25 IBUs, allowing it not only drinkability but likeability as well.
