It’s no secret that good wine starts with good grapes. What started with a few vines in 1997 on the family farm grew phenomenally, and now co-owners and brothers Butch and Jerry Milbrandt lead the farming of their grapes on 12 different estate vineyards on more than 2,500 acres of land along the Columbia Valley and Wahluke Slope. In 2005, the brothers decided to take the plunge from just growing fruit for other wineries to creating their own label of wine as well.
Milbrandt Vineyards’ 2014 Traditions Pinot Gris is part of their Traditions series, in which the wines are made with Milbrandt fruit as well as from the surrounding vineyards throughout the rest of the Columbia Valley. The Pinot Gris opens bold and strong with an acidic platform and subtle floral notes, off of which the fruit builds from. The wine was aged four months in stainless steel, and between the sweet flavors of melon and the lemon zing wrapping itself in the acidity, the dry white wine achieves a balanced, and delightfully refreshing palate. A clean cut finish wraps up the wine beautifully. Stop by their tasting room in Prosser, Washington to sample some of their product at a winery rooted in good farm and family values.
