WINE WEDNESDAYS: Anam Cara Cellars 2010 Pinot Noir, Nicholas Estate Vineyard, Chehalem Mountains
From the foundation of a rundown filbert, plum and walnut orchard, Anam Cara Cellars was established on that land in the Chehalem Mountains in 2001. A true family operation, the Nicholas Estate Vineyard was planted the same year the family moved from St. Helena, Calif. to Oregon, covering 27 acres now on their property. The vineyard’s namesake wine does the land proud, exuding aromatic spice of cinnamon and allspice, red berry fruit, mushroom and a hint of soy, setting a robust and exotic tone for an Oregon Pinot Noir. Medium-bodied with similar fruit pulling toward raspberry mostly, the palate is round with silky, sweet tannins and easy acid. Extremely pleasant and requesting a lamb shank.
