Though Maple Leaf Spirits has been making small batches of quality spirits and liqueurs on their copper pot still in Penticton since 2005, they’ve been largely under the radar—until now, that is. They now have the distinction of being the first BC Craft Distillery in the Okanagan recognized under the brand new BC liquor laws. This title is reserved for distilleries that produce artisan spirits from 100% BC fruit and grapes, and allows Maple Leaf to sell directly to private liquor stores and restaurants—never before allowed. Though they’ve been largely limited locally to tasting-room sales until now, they’ve been recognized at the Destillata Spirits Competition in Vienna, Austria, numerous times. Now we will also have easy access to spirits like the limited edition Pear Williams. Made from Okanagan Bartlett pears, this clean, clear and crisp eau de vie echoes fresh pear blossoms and is the essence of cool, fresh fruit. Silky smooth on the palate, the finish is long and polished.
