Finally, you can have your beer and coffee too. Introducing Elysian Brewing‘s latest seasonal: Split Shot Espresso Milk Stout. Officially releasing the first week of January, Split Shot comes in many forms—six-packs, 22-ounce bottles and on draft for all within the Elysian distribution network to get their well-rounded buzz on.
“In Seattle, beer and coffee are like siblings, jealously dividing the day,” says head brewer, founder and Seattle craft beer pioneer Dick Cantwell in the beer’s press release. “It’s a ticklish point as evening approaches, in fact, when the joys of the one give way to the other. And along with other more hard-bitten local industries, they compete for the attentions of a creative and often otherwise distracted workforce, dividing the hip and tattooed into brewers and roasters, barkeeps and baristas. Split Shot Espresso Milk Stout brings all that together, combining the talents of Elysian Brewing and Stumptown Coffee in a deliciously smooth, very Northwest beer.”
Kings of “collabeerations” (see New Belgium, Green Flash and Stone), Elysian brings back Split Shot for its second year and sports a bill of malts varying from Northwest pale to black, roasted and chocolate malts, with flaked oats and bitter Magnum hops to boot. Cold-infused Stumptown coffee is added in and milk sugar to sweeten. The upshot is a beer bursting with roasty richness, acidity and fresh-pulled espresso, along with a roundness brought on by the variety of opulent malts and the velvety butter of cream to create a mocha-effect.
