3 Howls Distillery Rye Whiskey

by | May 9, 2014

Hot off the press and silky-smooth on the palate—this week marks the official launch of 3 Howls Distillery’s Rye Whiskey, which takes the middle ground in the Seattle distillery’s whiskey lineup between the powerful Single Malt Whiskey and the subtly nuanced Hopped Whiskey. The rye is an approachable balanced mix of 55 percent rye, 40 percent corn and just the right amount of chocolate malt, where the rye builds a base of spicy warmth, corn imparts a light caramel sweetness, and the malts add depth and rich vanilla notes to match up with the woodsy, smoky undertones drawn from barreling. First, sample the rye with just a bit of spring water to savor its full effect. Then take 3 Howl distiller Will Maschmeier’s recommendation of his favorite cocktail for the spirit—a classic Manhattan.
